Kuroko no Basuke

** Attention Spoiler Ahead You Are Warned**

Series created by Tadatoshi Fujimaki and produced by Production I.G ( Psycho Pass, Haikyuu!!) Kuroko no Basuke (Kuroko’s Basketball) is a sport anime/manga series. The series count 30 manga volume, 3 anime season (25 episodes each), 3 compilation movie and an up-coming movie due for 2017.

Season 1

Season 2

Teikou Junior High School’s basketball team is crowned champion three years in a row thanks to five outstanding players who, with their breathtaking and unique skills, leave opponents in despair and fans in admiration. However, after graduating, these teammates, known as “The Generation of Miracles,” go their separate ways and now consider each other as rivals.

At Seirin High School, two newly recruited freshmen prove that they are not ordinary basketball players: Taiga Kagami, a promising player returning from the US, and Tetsuya Kuroko, a seemingly ordinary student whose lack of presence allows him to move around unnoticed. Although Kuroko is neither athletic nor able to score any points, he was a member of Teikou’s basketball team, where he played as the “Phantom Sixth Man,” who easily passed the ball and assisted his teammates.

Kuroko no Basket follows the journey of Seirin’s players as they attempt to become the best Japanese high school team by winning the Interhigh Championship. To reach their goal, they have to cross pathways with several powerful teams, some of which have one of the five players with godlike abilities, whom Kuroko and Taiga make a pact to defeat.

I came across Kuroko’s Basketball trough Tumblr. I saw a lot of post about it and make me wondering how an anime about basketball would be. I never really watch the sport in itself but I was still curious about it. And I really not regretting this decision.

First Production I.G did a great job on the game animation, I really love all the stunt the guy are doing. Everything look fluid and easy.

The series also present really nice character with their own persona. That one of the thing that I like, no character blend in, even supporting character like  Takao got some spotlight on him. Through the series we meet countless of character some of them are really precious, like Kagami, some you want to lock them in a closet, like Kise and other you just want to punch in the wall like Akashi, but all of them bring something to the main character, Tetsuya Kuroko. He saw Kagami potential so he decide to help him. Kise technic is to copy all the move he see so Kuroko had to develop new move to make sure Kise will not copy him. Not only there is no (or almost) useless character, but all the character change during the series.  They all tried to prove themselves, to evolve in order to make their team win.

One of the other reason why I like Kuroko no Basuke is because, Seirin, Kuroko team, doesn’t always win. They lost in during the inter-high, they lost but come back stronger after their training camp at the beach and thanks to one of their opponent, Kagami was able to see one of the reason why he couldn’t defeat Aomine the first time.

All this put together make a really good sport anime. Would I recommend it ? Yes of course. The story is good even if it’s mainly gravitate around basketball and the character are likable.
