Before the beginning of each season, I looked on MAL or YouTube for the upcoming series. I remember seeing Dive!! being part of the Summer season 2017, from what I was reading, the series would be a sport anime focus on diving competition. Since I enjoy watching sport anime and diving competition, I thoughts I could give it a try.

I will not say I was totally disappointed by the series, it was okay, but it’s definitively not Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu!! or even Free!. While I kind of enjoyed the characters, there was something missing in this series. What was missing is excitement. The same excitement people who watched and enjoyed Free! or Haikyuu!!. That excitement felt during the race or the game. If I was on the edge of my seat while watching Free! and Haikyuu!! I wasn’t when I watched Dive!!, not even once. One of the reason why I watch sport anime is cause of the thrill you can feel during the competition, the race or the game, if I feel no thrill or excitement while watching, I feel like it miss something. And if I feel like it miss something that should be important like the excitement, I might not totally enjoyed the series.

As I said I wasn’t totally disappointed, it’s just if there was moment where I wondered, what would happen next, what would be the score I would probably enjoyed more.

An other thing that could have help the series to mark some more point with the viewer is the visual. It wasn’t totally bad, but it could have been better. I said it in the Summer 2017 round-up post, I really feel like the put all their time on working on the water reflection on the divers’ body, cause that reflection look great for sure. If they would have put as much effort on the rest, the series would have probably be a little bit better.

One thing the series did right it how the portrayed hardcore sportive, the one that are always training, the one that put friend and love aside, the one who are married to their sport. We saw it with Fujitani Youchi, who is always calculating the calories he is eating and Sakai Tomoki who got his girlfriend stolen by his younger brother cause he wasn’t able to properly take care of her. Those are example of people who are ready to sacrificed a lot for the sake of their sport.

Dive!! have an interesting premise, but since it lacking on two, I think, important points, it make the series, okay, watchable, but nothing more than that. If someone ask me if they should watch it, I would tell them only if they have time to lose. I would not necessarily recommend it. As I said I wasn’t totally disappointed, if I didn’t like the series, I would had simply dropped, and I didn’t dropped. I watch the twelves episode. There was some good moment, like when Fujitani and Sakao visit Okitsu Shibuki. However, I didn’t like, enjoyed the series enough to rewatch it or recommend it.
