Hi everyone!,
Welcome to a new edition of K-Friday.
My initial idea was to look for in my old draft that I kept from the time I was running my, now deleted, KPop blog. I still have them written in Google doc, collecting the dust in the hope I will eventually give them a new life. However, in the beginning of the week, I woke-up in a bad news from the KPop industry concerning a boy group that I loved and still love and I think everyone should at least check them out once.
100% (백퍼센트) is a group signed under T.O.P Media, therefore they are brother group of Teen Top, they also have as mentor Andy from the legendary group Shinhwa.
They debuted as a seven-member boy group in 2012 with their single album We, 100% and the lead title “Bad Boy”
In their early days the group included, Minwoo, Rockhyun, Jonghwan, Chanyong, Hyukjin, Changbum and Sanghoon.
“Bad Boy”
In May 2013, the group released their 1st mini-album, Real 100% with “Want U Back” as lead title. During the following years, the leader Minwoo, enlisted for his mandatory military service and Sanghoon, the youngest member, decide to take time off for himself. In March 2014 the group released their 2nd EP Bang the Bush and the lead title “Beat” and later in July they released their second single album Sunkiss with “U Beauty”.
“Beat”
When the group came back in October 2016, more than two years after their last comeback, Minwoo was back from his military service, but Changbum left. The mini-album Time Leap is the 3rd EP if the group and include the song “Better Day”. This mini-album is also the first release since the return of the leader.
“Better Day”
**Note – I rarely give my opinion in those spotlight post, but I really have to say this, “Better Day” is to me the best track 100% released. Note only the chorus is haunting, but the guys just sound great and the look awesome**
2017 was a big year for the group, in January they debuted on the Japanese market with their 1st single album How to Cry and the lead song of the same title, then in February the group had a Korean comeback with their 4th EP Sketchbook including the song “Sketch U” and finally in October, all five members join the project The Unit.
“How to Cry”
I would really like to end this post on a good note, however I can’t since the reason why I wrote this spotlight post instead of revisiting one of my old post, it’s because last Sunday the group leader, Minwoo, was found without pulse in is home, the paramedic wasn’t able to save him, he died from a cardiac arrest he was 33 years old, way too young to died.
Minwoo was that member who decide to give up an acting career to focus on the idol life, sadly the group didn’t debut the right year and will mostly always fall in the category of “Who are they again?”
I saw 100% debut back in 2012 and they gave me a really good impression, I really enjoyed each of their release, and it sadden me to think the group might forever will see as Teen Top labelmate, even if they have their own name.
Some member of the group got invited to the musical tv show Immortal Song and you have to know that you must have some kind of talent to get there, idols are not usually invited and each time they got on the Immortal Song stage, they boys give a great performance. They even won at least once, with their amazing collaboration with their labelmate Niel.
“널 그리며 ”
The event just happen and there is no information regarding the future of the group, however I deeply hope the remaining member we continue to work as hard as always.
~ Thank you for reading ~
See you next time!!

Rest in Peace sweet soul, you will truly be missed.

I was hard time to believe it when I read the news. I just hope the group will not stop there. Cause even if they doesn’t have the exposure, 100% is a great group.

They are great. I agree, I hope it doesn’t affect their music TOO much… It’s hard to move on without a member though! We’ll have to cross our fingers that it works out!

I really liked Minwoo, he did bring something to the song, however they already prove to be able to release good song without him, like when he enlist for the army.
