[OWLS] Once in a Lifetime – Making my Dreams Come True

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to this fourth edition OWLS tour in 2018, once again thank to Lyn..or maybe more Shoka since he is the one who request it for this great topic.

But before talking about the topic of this month, you have to know what is OWLS.
OWLS stand for Otaku Warrior for Liberty and Self-Respect, is a group of bloggers and vloggers who promote the acceptance of everyone without taking in consideration their ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation disabilities. If you want to know more about us, feel free to visit the group blog here and you can found the full tour schedule here.

April Topic

In one way, music is form of healing and self-expression. For this month’s topic, we will be exploring some of our favorite musical pieces (anime/drama OSTs, movie soundtracks, music genres and etc.) and how it has impacted our lives and/or reasons why we enjoy listening to it.

Dream and wish, we all have them, we all wish or dream of getting or doing something, however sometimes we can’t cause we either don’t have time or money (sometimes both) this is why I started to put money aside, cause there is dreams I have, but it take a certain amount of money to do it.

To achieve those dream and get what I wish for, I began to put money aside in a little envelope. Of course like most people who put money aside like that, this money is hard to keep and easy to spend. It’s there, easy to take to go on shopping spree (aaah the amount of manga I could buy with that money) but to stop me to use that money, I wrote a little something on it, somethings simple that stop be each times I’m thinking about taking this money for something else then the reason why I’m putting there.

“Once in a Lifetimes”

This is the title of a song, a song performed by one of my favorite K-pop group, Shinhwa. I already wrote in the past about the group, post you can read here.

When I saw what was the prompt for April, I knew “Once in a Lifetime” was the song I will pick, this is the song that allowed me to make my solo trip in Toronto for the Anime North last year and it’s also the song that will allow me to visit Les Îles-de-la-Madelaines in August with my mom and my aunt.

As I said, “Once in a Lifetime” is performed by the boy group Shinhwa (who is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year), the track can be found on the group 8th album released in 2006, State of the Art.

The lyrics talk about working hard to make our dreams coming truth and to always believe them, it’s simple lyrics, but they still have a lot of meaning.

Everyday I Pray
To help me through the day to
make myself stronger…
And I Pray
Right now,
The dreams I’ve longed for
Are slowly approaching and unfolding

When I close my eyes,
I can hear
Someone’s prayer entering my heart

I believe that all
The many promises I’ve made
With the stars will come true one day

We can do anything
If we sweat, and pay
Attention to those who are special to us

Once in a lifetime fly to the star.
The stars will watch over your dreams
Once in your lifetime, for that day
Forever, we’ll work together,
So have love for your dreams

Try your best to overcome
The upsetting and tough obstacles
Okay, open your eyes to the sky,
Then you can find the way
For the better days
Now we can live together
In this world

When it’s tough, you can rest.
Okay, yo quickly take a second
The longed dream that the many stars
Know about, you can take it
It will be easier if we work together
This dream of yours is filled with passion,
It’s all yours. There’s not question

I believe that all
The many promises I’ve made
With the stars will come true one day

We can do anything
If we sweat, and pay
Attention to those who are special to us

Once in a lifetime fly to the star.
The stars will watch over your dreams
Once in your lifetime, for that day
Forever, we’ll work together,
So have love for your dreams

Even if we cry during our lives
(No, baby no more cry)
I will be your strength
(I’ll pray for you and me tonight)
If you notice the stars that resemble you,
Then I will confess my love for you

Once in a lifetime

Once in a lifetime fly to the star.
The stars will watch over your dreams
(Watch over)
Once in your lifetime, for that day
Forever, we’ll work together,
So have love for your dreams

Once in a lifetime fly to the star
(Fly to the star),
Always remembering your dreams
(Remember your dreams)
Once in your lifetime, for that day
Forever, we’ll work together, so have
Love for your dreams

I could have chosen a lot of song, Like “Anthem of an Angel” by Breaking Benjamin or pick an anime song that I particularly like. However if I decide to go for “Once in a Lifetime” by Shinhwa it’s because a lot of people can relate to that song, some might even fight hope, strength and determination while listening to it.

  1. I was a huge fan of Breaking Benjamin back in high school, but no one else was so I kind of felt alone with this lol. I don’t really listen to anything now, but I kind of squeed a bit when I saw you mentioning them.
ps. The guys of Shinhwa are mighty handsome. Out of the six, which one is your favourite?
