I don’t remember when and how I come across this Fruits Basket sequel and I seriously don’t really care. Fruits Basket is one of the few Shoujo manga I enjoyed, in fact I love that series, the personage were interesting and I enjoyed seeing them growing, becoming more mature as the story was going. Therefor I was really pleased to see a sequel for this story, a sequel about the child of the once cursed Sohma family

Left to Right: Riku Sohma, Sora Sohma, Hajime Sohma, Sawa Mitoma and Mitsuki Sohma © Takaya Natsuki

I read the few first chapter available online at that time and I like was I saw, the main character, Mitoma Sawa, reminded me of Honda Tohru  and seemed as sweet as the female lead of the popular shoujo manga. This convince me to look for the physical copy of the series once they would get publish and translate (note: living in the province of Quebec and having as native language french, I read my physical manga in french, only the physical when I looked for scanlation it pick the english one). I was quite happy when I found the first volume and was eager to read it and see how the story was, hoping to not be deceive.

While I can’t say much about the story and I seriously don’t expect anything like the prequel serie, I like that first volume. Meeting the character and trying to figure who was the kids of who was fun even if most of the time it was quite obvious. Sohma Hajime look at lot like his father Sohma Kyo, same apply to the twin Riku and Sora who are the child of Hatsuharu and Isuzu “Rin” Sohma. I was also please to see Hanajima Megumi, Saki’s younger brother, as teacher, He is the homeroom teacher of our main female character.

Reading this first volume brought me a lot of good memory, I couldn’t help but fangirl over Hajime, he reminded me so much of his father who was (and still is) my favorite character from the original series.

This sequel makes me happy, and I can’t wait to read the other volumes even if it will be a short series of three volumes

Did you start reading it?
